No boat today.
Or rather no boat for everyone minus padre.
He wanted to go fishing and I always get sea sick, so I opted not go out.
[Bad son]
So the rest of us drove down to the local beach and relaxed.
I finished the Hunger Games and started Catching Fire.
Why didn’t I read these when Mitchell asked me to?
They’re SO good.
I’m hooked.
We ate lunch at this great hole-in-the-wall restaurant.
Fresh sea food and tres leches?!
Say what?
And the day gets even better.
Padre called and said he caught two wahoo.
Two.
Wahoo.
That’s a first.
It’s a prize to get one wahoo, but two – that's unheard of.
Padre is very excited about his catch,
WAHOO!
When he pulled in,
we noticed the neighbors were all fretting over something in the water.
A large something.
A manatee.
I know I’m a native Floridian and I probably shouldn’t admit this,
but I’ve never seen a manatee in the wild.
I’m so ashamed.
But here one is and people are swimming with it?!
Why not us?
That’s exactly what I thought while I was jumping in the water.
We fed it lettuce, brushed it’s barnacle-y back, and swam with it.
I just can’t believe it – so amazing.
My first time seeing one and I got to swim right next to her.
She reminded me of Chesney, so big and slow moving.
What a great day.
I’m loving being in the keys.
Tomorrow’s the big lobster day.
Hope we’ve practiced enough because it’s going to be intense.

You swam with a manatee?!
ReplyDeleteThat fish looks almost as big as your dad!! And your right - manatees and Chesney kind of are similar. I'm jealous, that's seriously cool.
