Roll of polaroid film number two.
First roll of colored film.
Overall: disappointed.
I'm just upset with the way most of them turned out.
It was a MAJOR learning experience - and I hopefully won't make some of the same mistakes again.
Exposure 1.
I was literally gaga over this photo
[Aunt Muriel quote - Mitchell would've gotten it - book seven] .
but for real, I couldn't stop staring at it.
I thought I had loaded the film wrong - and had to fix it twice - and so was super nervous that I had exposed the entire roll of film.
I was ecstatic when I didn't - and I saw the blue blue sky and the red brick building of Century Tower.
I wanted to photograph something that kind of summed up UF.
and I don't think anything says - University of Florida - more than the bell tower.
Exposure 2.
Yeah - the same thing happened film one - exposure one.
Me, Neil, and Kate were studying for math - and I was really eager to take another polaroid.
but I pushed my luck - it was too soon.
and too dark.
Lesson one: Polaroid film doesn't pick up florescent light.
We had tons of scattered paper and I took it from above - it would've looked cool.
The faint white light towards the center left is Neils computer - he had put the time up so everyone could see how late it was.
[2:20a.m]
I took a fish eye photo after seeing the way my polaroid turned out.
Exposure 3.
Taken one of the many times I visited the Sniders this semester.
I love them.
After taking jumping photos - I told Emree I'd take a polaroid of her.
I waited too long and let it get just barely too dark.
The photo came out ok, I guess.
Lesson two: It has to be bright outside in order for the polaroid to expose correctly.
Exposure 4.
Wanting to fulfill my promise to Emree and take a good polaroid of her, we tried again the next day.
I don't really know what I was thinking - I should have realized she would only be a silhouette, but for some unknown reason - I didn't,
She was holding a hibiscus flower.
Lesson three: What you see in the view finder - is not the image that will be exposed.
The view finder is about two/three inches above the lens - which exposes the photo.
So when I took this photo - I composed it with the sun and it's rays peeking out from her shoulder, but because the view finder is above - the sun was lost behind her and it became a silhouette.
Another disappointment.
Exposure 5 and 6.
I surprised my family and came home.
Except because I didn't tell anyone I was coming - no one was home.
So, I went to the beach.
It was October and it was my first time going since the summer.
I know - ridiculous.
Well - to celebrate being alone at the beach - and to actually be at the beach -
I took two polaroids.
They both came out really good - and I was finally happy but -
Lesson four: After you peel a polaroid - don't put it back in the chemical papers.
After I peeled them and saw that they were good and in fear of getting sand all over them - I put them back in the peeled paper - with the chemicals that exposed them.
dun. dun. dun.
So some nasty - brown re-exposure thing appeared and messed up my five and six.
SUXAR.
At this point - I wanted to just forget this film ever happened.
Exposure 7.
Abandon all hope.
I took another dark polaroid.
I don't have an excuse for why this one turned out bad.
On my way back from Psychology I pass this huge tree.
and recently all the leaves on this tree turned a bright yellow and I thought it would look super cool.
wrong.
It was bright. I composed it right. but still.
all wrong.
The worst part is - all the leaves look green.
Not even a tinge of yellow.
Exposure 8.
I accepted it here.
I accepted that I would not take another decent colored polaroid.
Thanksgiving Day.
I wanted to take a photo of my house and my family because I'm most grateful for my home and my family.
I'm guess I wasn't thankful enough for polaroids - because it came out too dark.
Too dark. Too dark. Too dark.
Exposure 9.
I was desperate.
Desperate to get a good one - so I gave Thanksgiving one more try.
Wrong Answer.
Worse than the first Thanksgiving one.
Way too dark.
At this point I really started to think it was the film - not me.
I mean seriously - almost the entire role of film too dark?
Exposure 10.
My Last Exposure.
My last time at the beach until mid-December.
[so depressing]
With Cassie.
I had just watched "The Last Song" with my parents the previous day.
[I know - Miley Cyrus - ahah]
I practically had to beg Cassie to let me outline her body in shells.
Begged.
I had two minutes - and she was counting down
It wasn't as easy or as fun as they make it look in the movie.
and it was super stressful with Cassie's "thirty seven - thirty six - if you're not done at zero, I'm getting up"
I was really hoping that this final polaroid would make me happy.
and with great anxiety I took the photo.
Lesson five: It's okay to use a fish eye - it adds more light.
I put my fish eye up to the lens of the polaroid camera.
and it WORKED!
It came out so good.
I was so relieved - and finally satisfied.
Overall - I've decided to take a little break from colored polaroids.
But I have to say - while I was taking the photos for Kate's project -
specifically the "F" [which is of my polaroid camera]
I noticed something very peculiar.
Below the lens - there is this little dial:
"Darker ---- Ligher"
Are you kidding me.
Ten guesses which way the dial was pointing.
What.An.Idiot.
[so I switched it immediately]
and that means it's time to retire my old header.
[finally]
I'm not going to lie - I hated this header starting the day I put it up.
I couldn't wait to change it.

I LOVE the pictures of Emree, even if you don't. I also like your new header. And the picture of Century Tower. And you. The end.
ReplyDeleteI love the font that "polaroids" is in. And that century tower picture...perfect. I LOL'd at the light-dark dial thing - that would happen to you. Also, it's 5:30 am. I'm still awake! Ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteI cant wait for you to come home so we can hang out!!! Ive still kept myself up to date on your blog and I wish I could blog more, but my life is just not as interesting as yours...
ReplyDeleteokay the second one of Emree - i'm in love! The beach ones were so good, it stinks they got ruined! I really do love the one of Cassie, i'm awaiting my polaroid film so we'll have to go on an excursion!
